Innovating Communication Technology for All Manufacturers

Discover how FetLON revolutionizes LON® protocol implementation – versatile, scalable, and free from vendor lock-in.

Our Journey in Communication Innovation

FetLON was created to deliver a cost-effective, high-performance, and vendor-independent solution for implementing the LON® protocol across a broad range of 32-bit microcontrollers. By avoiding reliance on proprietary hardware, FetLON offers a future-proof and flexible alternative to legacy systems.

At the core of our solution is our patented differential Manchester code conversion technology, which enables reliable communication over a simple bus interface – without requiring dedicated LON® chips. This opens up new possibilities for developers and manufacturers seeking long-term availability, broad platform compatibility, and freedom from single-source constraints.

The FetLON stack has been in successful use for several years and has proven itself in demanding real-world applications. It is trusted by a growing number of satisfied customers who rely on its stability, efficiency, and adaptability in diverse embedded environments.

Whether you’re designing with STMicroelectronics, NXP, or soon Renesas microcontrollers – FetLON provides a robust foundation for ISO/IEC 14908-1 compliant communication that scales with your needs.

Migration from Neuron® 5000 to STM32 with FetLON Stack

Project period: Summer 2022 – Spring 2023

By migrating from Neuron® 5000 to STM32G0B1 and the modular FetLON stack, a leading control technology manufacturer reacted proactively to increasing supply shortages in 2022 – gaining not only independence, but also modern architecture with full LonWorks compatibility.

Challenge

  • Long-term independence from the Neuron® 5000
  • Proven LonTalk communication should be maintained
  • Previous attempts with alternatives (e.g. CAN) not successful
  • Compatibility with existing network management and field
  • devices essential

Solutions

  • Decision for STM32G0B1 + FetLON stack
  • Patented support for Dierential Manchester Coding
  • Modular stack enables fast customization
  • Existing analyzers and network management remain usable

Results

  • Full functionality retained (incl. network variables, tools,
  • service processes)
  • Step-by-step migration of the various modules instead of a
  • complete changeover
  • More function in the chip: fewer external components thanks
  • to modern CPU – saving space and costs.
  • Long-term availability guaranteed

Lessons Learned

Migration from Neuron® 5000 to STM32 is technically feasible
FreeRTOS facilitates the mapping of complex logic
Existing systems can be modernized without replacing them
The effort is manageable if the architecture is modular
